Struggles every person who has a ‘Neat Freak’ roommate faces!
We have all loved Monica (reference, F.R.I.E.N.D.S), and envied her apartment. For most of us, coming home to a tidy home with shiny dining table bearing a plate of freshly baked cookies (neatly arranged in a pyramid, I must add) is a dream come true. But that sometimes, also means coming home to a frantic roommate alphabetically arranging and cross-referencing photo albums!!!
If you’re a classic Rachel and happen to have a Monica for a roommate, you know how crazy they can sometimes get. Here are a few things, you’re sure to relate to:
1. Sunday is synonymous for ‘Cleaning day’
No, you absolutely cannot have Sundays lazing in bed. As if, doing the laundry wasn’t bad enough. If you’re forced to spend your precious Sunday folding the sheets, washing the bathrooms, arranging the kitchen counter….and the list goes on, we know how it feels. And you can’t even talk back, because you know the house would feel so much better after!
2. And when you do clean, they criticize your cleaning techniques.
“The thing about paper towels is that they leave streak marks!” – Uh. Okay, so what’s your point again?
3. After every house party, you’re now used to the “YOU ARE DEAD” look.
Hosting parties come with the downside of cleaning up the next day. And you know, your roommate’s a Monica when she flinches at every little drop of a drink spill on the table or the tiniest morsel of food fall on the floor.
And you know, it’s gonna take up a whole lot of cleaning the next day by you, if you’d like to have a roof over your head.
4. You’re absolutely sure your house is 99.9 per cent germ free
A trip to the supermarket means, your roommate binging on all kinds of cleaners, detergents, dusters, trash bags etc. Congratulations, your house is now prepared to fight all kinds of germs known to mankind.
5. OCD seems normal to you now
“Big spoons on the right, small spoons on the left, all aligned in a 90 degree fashion, please!”
And you hum along the words to yourself with doing the chores.
6. You have to change the sheets constantly like CONSTANTLY.
Woke up a little sweaty this morning? Change the sheets. Had a rough day at work? Change the sheets. Nothing else left to do? Let’s change the sheets!
7. Your parents like them more than you
You knew this one was coming, right? They’re naturally super impressed by their skills and thank God for them as your living partner, or you’d make a dumpster out of the place. Nonetheless, you sometimes CANNOT take the “You should be more like her!” nags anymore.
8. You now know a thing or two about good housekeeping
Staying with them has made you think about cleanliness and hygiene too. And they deserve a big thank you, for that!
To all the neat-freaks out there, we love you! 🙂
