Every once in a while we look at kids playing and wonder where did those days go. Like the meme says – “gone are those days when there used to be morning, noon, evening and night. Now it is only morning and night.”
This Children’s day, we look at things that remind us (90s kids) of childhood, few of which our kids will probably never know:
• Apni Colony
The present brought-up-in-apartment generation will never know the familiarity one felt on entering the lane. We don’t even know the person living next door. Then we used to go to sleep on aunty’s sofa and wake up in our beds.
• Food on the table
Then – Come back from school, dump bag on table, change and scream – “khaaannnaaaa”. You might get it even without screaming. Now one needs to include getting groceries, haggling with maid and worrying what to get cooked in the list.
• Shaktimaan and Rangoli
We have known what it feels like to wait for cartoons. The 24 hour availability has somehow diminished the excitement of the same.
• Channel – cut
Just as the world fears “no wifi” today, we used to fear these two images coming on screen. Add to it the fights over whose turn it was to go and re-position the antenna.
• Advertisements
Back then there was no to little concept of celebrity endorsement, thereby forcing the marketing team to be REALLY creative. Whether it was the Alto jingle or the Cadbury cricket match, some of the iconic advertisements created then persevere today.
• Unlimited Snacks
As a child, your job is only to finish the snacks. Miraculously, the next time you opened the cupboard, it was replenished. How much to buy, when to make the next grocery trip, what all to stock – these questions came only after we left home.
It is like they say – you realize the importance of something only after you have lost it. Childhood is surely one such time. Back then all we wanted to do was grow up and go to office and get money at the end of month. It is now that we have grown up that we realize true freedom is what we have lost.
While those days cannot come back again, we at CoHo try our best to bring back the community feeling, the familiarity and the luxury of a managed household. Book a visit today and explore more what we have to offer!!!
