It is Okay, it’s called Life.
Diwali is a time for friends, family and home. Well, you can say that about all festivals. But one may not miss home as much on Holi as one does on Diwali. Setting up the lights, finding money in nooks and corners during the cleaning, waiting for puja to get over so that you can rush out and burst crackers, scolding the younger ones to maintain their distance – there is so much to look forward to. But now that you have moved on to other city for job, getting a Diwali leave is not always possible.
It is the first Diwali away from home that is the worst. Well, we cannot take you there but surely help you celebrate it in as amazing a manner:
• Prepare for it as you would have otherwise done
Diwali is as much about anticipation as it is about preparation. Why not clean the place you are staying in now? Be it a pg or an apartment, a house becomes a home with memories. Create yours here. Follow the same rituals. Call up your family and exchange some tips. Get few fairy lights and light up the space. The list is endless.
• Go through the rituals
Accept it – we know the elaborate rituals and puja rules only as much as our parents know technology. In fact, the chances are we might know even lesser. But what harm is there in trying? Try your hand at rangoli.
Doing the puja is even easier. Call your family on Skype/Google and simply copy what they are doing. Not only will you be doing it but will also not miss the puja back home.
• Light somebody else’s life
Cleaned and set up your house but the loneliness is getting to you? See if you can go to an old age home or an orphanage. Instead of simply putting old stuff in a donation box, maybe you can pack them before giving them away.
The cherry on the cake would be if you could personally hand them over. Even a broken toy can bring the brightest smile on a destitute child’s face.
• Cook for others
This Diwali try your best that one less person sleeps hungry. I had a manager who used to cook in bulk on Diwali night and distributed it to street children. If not that, you can invite your maid and her family over for dinner and cook for them. It need not be an elaborate affair.
But a simple two course meal will make them feel special in a way that no amount of Diwali bonus can. Basically the point is that if you look around, you will realize that you are not as alone as you consider yourself to be.
This Diwali collect experiences. We at CoHo try our best to ensure that you never miss your home. Why not celebrate it with us. Call us up and book a visit right away if you’re looking for a PG villa or flats on rent in Delhi, Gurgaon or Noida.
Happy Diwali!!
