With what many call the fourth industrial revolution, the digital revolution has broken all the boundaries that once restricted free flow of information. Today’s millennials’ thirst is quenched only by accessing as much information as they can from the internet.
The philosophy of 19th-century free thinker William Kingdon Clifford holds true today more than ever in its most eloquent form, “It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.”
And today’s generation is not ready to accept anything without a strong logic, reason or empiricism as against authority, tradition, revelation, or other dogmas. This is nowhere seen as evidently as in the case of India.
The once constricted environment with restricted access to information has been overcome by ample opportunities that the virtual world has bestowed on the Indian youth.
They are more impatient than ever to optimize this information in their favor and get results as fast as light travels. The infinite web pages are complimenting the rolling papers of information more than ever.
And what make virtual information different is that it is something that can be utilized by an infinite lot at any time from anyplace. It is not marijuana that ceases to exist once kept over a vaporizer.
Following on the footsteps of the legendary Steve Jobs, the millennials wish to stay hungry and stay foolish. And there isn’t anything wrong with that. At the pace with which everything is revolutionizing with new inventions and innovations taking shape every now and then, it is only natural to take a leap and do something.
It need not necessarily be different but it definitely needs to make a mark to keep surviving in today’s competitive world. To realise this potential one ought to have an open mind and an environment that encourages free thinking.
